Reimaanlok conservation areas are established as marine protected areas – parks or reserves – under the Fisheries Act 1997. PAN local resource committee members need to be approved by the community. Under the Marshall Islands Management and Development of Local Fisheries Act, the Local Government Council is responsible for taking measures for the protection of local fisheries up to 5 nautical miles.
