The State Office of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Service d'Etat de l'Agriculture, de la Forêt et de la Pêche) and the Territorial Office of Rural Affairs and Fisheries (Service Territorial des Affaires Rurales et de la Pêche) are responsible for implementing fisheries and aquaculture policies. Law n° 61-814 of 29 July 1961 is the fundamental law of Wallis and Futuna and establishes the Territorial Council which examines all projects to be submitted to the Territorial Assembly, including in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. It is composed of the Head of the Territory and three Traditional Chiefs. Deliberation n°73/AT/05 on marine fisheries is the main fisheries legislation which imposes general measures such as quotas for subsistence fishing or fishing bans for certain species.
